About me
I am a Flash Platform hybrid: developer (10 years) and designer (20 years). Since 2000 my focus has been on development and to this day I continue to aggressively learn about and apply best practice principles to my work. I am also the President of Spin Technologies Inc. and founder/chief architect of RunningMap.com.
In 1989 I graduated from the University of Alberta with a BFA (visual communication design). I worked as a graphic designer for the next 6 years at the U of A.
In 1995 I joined COMPRU (world renowned medical unit specializing in head and neck reconstruction) where my primary duty was that of Anaplastologist. I also spearheaded clinical research into computerized colouration techniques for facial prosthetics and wrote a published scientific paper, co-wrote a book chapter, and lectured internationally on the subject.
In 2000 I went back to school to study web programming (WebBuilder diploma) and since 2001 have been working as a Flash developer for the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. During the first half of 2005 I took an “industry leave” from NAIT to work for preeminent Flash developer Grant Skinner. There I worked on exciting projects which included games for a major motion picture website and a video showcase for a high profile video streaming service.
Since 2001 I have been freelancing for local and international clients. One of my current preoccupations is RUNNINGMAP.COM, a website that I conceived of several years ago and have been developing since.
In 2007 I was featured by Yahoo! in their Developer Spotlight. This year saw other media attention associated with RUNNINGMAP.COM culminating in a guest appearance on The Lab with Leo Laporte.
More recently I have worked on a freelance basis for high profile Internet companies such as daylife.com, castfire.com and ChannelFlip.com.
